Concert Band
The Symphonic Band and Concert Band are balanced ensembles of woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments comprised of students in grades 9 - 12.
At the conclusion of marching season the band remains together as one large concert band for the rest of first semester giving one performance in December. In mid December auditions are held for placement in the Symphonic and Concert Bands which begin rehearsing at the start of second semester. Both bands rehearse at the same time during first hour.
The Symphonic and Concert bands both participate in three to four concerts and in the Missouri State Large Ensemble Festival held each spring. Both groups received Honor I ratings this past spring and the band program is proud to have earned thirty-four consecutive Honor I ratings at the state large ensemble festival.
Pagent of Bands February 27th, 2011
The 39th Annual Pageant of Bands was held Sunday, February 27th at Holt High School in the gym. Pagent of Bands showcases all of the bands at both Wentzville Holt and Wentzville Middle School in one giant concert. All five concert bands and the jazz band perform in the same concert hall on the same Sunday afternoon. Check out the pictures page for new albums of pictures from the concert.
Missouri All-State Band
Congratulations to Jacob Spiegel and Chandler Est on their selection to the Missouri All-State Band. Jacob was selected as fourth chair trumpet in the band and Chandler is fourth chair Honorable Mention. Over 1100 students from across the state met at Hickman High School in Columbia to audition for the prestigious 104 member all-state band. The band will meet, rehearse and perform at the Missouri Music Educators Association Conference held January 26 - 29, 2011 at Tan-Tar-A Resort, Lake of the Ozarks.
The conductor and clinician for the Missouri All-State Band is Col. Lowell Graham, Ret., former conductor of the United States Air Force Band and currently Chairman of the Music Department at the University of Texas at El Paso. The only performance of the Missouri All-State Band will be at 2:00 PM, January 29, at Tan-Tar-A Resort.
St. Louis Suburban District Honors Band
Congratulations to the following high school band members for being selected to the St. Louis Suburban District Honors Band. Over 350 students from the St. Louis Suburban District auditioned for the honors band which will give a performance at Ladue High School on Sunday, January 9, 2011. Julia Zagaja – Flute; Chandler Est and Jacob Spiegel – Trumpet; Raisa Buenaventura – Trombone; Tim Frkovic – Euphonium; Patrick Miller – Tuba; and alternates Allie McDonald – Horn, and Casey Diebold – Baritone Sax.
Honors
The Symphonic Band was selected to perform at the Missouri Music Educators Association Convention in January of 2007, the fourth time they have been selected for this honor.
For the third year in a row both bands received a mark of “I” at the Missouri State Large Ensemble Festival in Warrenton, Missouri, April 17, 2010.
